As some of you may know, we have entered the next phase of technology advancement known as the Metaverse. We started with computers, graduated to AOL and AskJeeves, moved on to Google and social media platforms like Myspace, Facebook, and Instagram, and now the Metaverse is here. If you didn’t know, consider this your introduction and how it relates to us here in the events industry. If you’ve logged into your social media accounts on Facebook or Instagram, you’ll notice that it is now powered by Meta. This also includes the messaging app, What’s App. We were a little reluctant to accept this new world, but we thought it’d be best to get into it now before we get left behind.

Now if you’re wondering what exactly the Metaverse is, it’s a 3D world that focuses on social connection. It’s all fictional, but the human interaction is real. Combined with VR, you can enter any type of world that you’d like. Think of the Sims games but even more advanced and interactive. You can take a vacation through the Metaverse, visit your favorite museum, adventure up the highest mountain, etc all from the comfort of your couch. In the times we’re in, how cool is it that you can adventure safely to other parts of the world! You could attend concerts of artists that are dead or alive. There are just endless possibilities to where you can travel in this new world.

Of course, we had to bring this back to events as a leading events planning company. If you were wondering, yes the Metaverse can elevate your event tremendously. You have the opportunity to introduce your attendees to a world outside of your event walls. Is there a history of your event that you’d like to share, the Metaverse and VR could be something you offer as an activity at your event. This is always a chance to enhance branding your company throughout your event. In addition, if you’ve ever thought about hosting an event, you could do the event completely in the Metaverse without people even having to come to a venue. In the last two years, we’ve had to attend virtual meetings and events. This Metaverse could now make things a lot more interesting.

We’re going to do a deep dive into the advantages and disadvantages of hosting your event in the Metaverse in part 2, but for now, we wanted to introduce you to the Metaverse. Whether you want to enter the universe or not, it’s here. Facebook creator Mark Zuckerberg refers to the Metaverse as the “successor to the mobile internet,”
